IMPORTANT – Ignore goowy

If anyone has received an invitation to goowy from my Gmail email address then please ignore it. I was testing the service. It turns out the service effectively spams everyone in my Gmail address book. This is really bad news and I’m bracing myself for the flack.

Adriana Cronin-Lukas was one such unfortunate recipient.

‘Sucks’ doesn’t come close to describing this. More later on this pile of cack. Needless to say, I’ll be incinerating this puppy in the very near future.

BTW – I’m deliberately NOT linking to goowy because I feel it handles invites so badly. And contrary to what some think, I am NOT connected with goowy in any way.

    I too got one of those invitations and investigated and decided not to get involved.  I was surprised to get an email from Dennis.  Part of the problem is Google.  I am glad that I stopped using gmail address book as I now access it via a pop3 account Would make for an interesting complaint to Google about the Gmail exploit.  Dennis, was this part of their TOS or did they exploit your address book some other way?  A little more info would be appreciated.

    Along with a colleague, I am recreating and documenting what happened so I can be 100% sure. At that point, I’ll comment further. In the meantime, sincerest apologies to anyone who has been inconvenienced. There’s no way it should have happened.

This was not at all our intent and we thought we made it very clear during the import and invite contacts process (the invite font was big and red). Since a few people have had a problem with this we have changed the process so that this will not happen in the future.     goowy is a pretty cool application actually.  theyre in beta it looks like…sounds like an honest mistake…im gonna give them a chance.

    If you didn’t check the “Invite friends” checkbox or leave it checked, Goowy wouldn’t have sent those.
    Oh please. Don’t blame your own error on other people.

    Not sure if you’re aware but this was a long time ago and Goowy themselves acknowledged there was a problem in sucking up contacts in e-mailing applications.

    As far as MY people were concerned, they were getting spammed. Please go check your facts before name calling. Please also go check the comments.

    And just so’s you know – this site is an Asshole Free Zone. Try it again and you’re IP address gets banned. Permanently.
