ICAEW rules – KO?

Ken Frost has alerted me to the fact plans to change the name have been scrapped. Ken says this is humiliating for CEO Eric Anstree. Sorry Ken – on this occasion I disagree. From what I’m hearing, Eric is seeing there needs to be a different approach that more closely respects the members wishes. remember he’s in a tough spot, He’s got the position of CEO in a trade association. that’s like trying to run the local Conservative Club – you can’t please everyone however hard you try. At this point in time, I’d rather put out the olive branch. Of course, if he FU’s on the big issues – and here the issue about the unwieldy size of Council size is something that needs tackling – that’s a different matter. Score one to Eric.

perhaps more to the point - how many ICAEW members care? And how many of those care enough to make their views known, and if they do what is the chance that the ICAEW will listen or respond?

The issue is simple - does anyone outside the ICAEW care?

BUT reported on Aweb this morning:
"ICAEW name change not an issue
The ICEAW has rebuffed rumours that it has been forced to back down of plans to change its name to the Institute of Chartered Accountants. A spokesman for the institute said that plans to change the name were abandoned once the ICEAW lost the vote on its proposal to merge with CIPFA. "Now that we lost the vote the name change is no longer on the table. The brand is very important to us." he said. He said there were no talks in progress regarding further mergers "

have to say thats not how i recall anstee was reported at the time. it was more like we might have lost this vote but we are pressing ahead, and the name change is still on the table.

Sorry Dennis,

I think you will find that the ICAEW were not listening to the membership but, as said to me by a respected and well known fellow professional, instead were told by the Privy Council that the idea was a non starter.

I would also note that I did not say that this was a humiliation for Eric, but "yet another humiliating defeat for the current leadership of the ICAEW".

best regards

Ken Frost

...that’s like trying to ruin the local Con Club...

I preferred the original Freudian Slip personally ;-)
