The new face of marketing?

Suckupfinal Lg-1Guy Kawasaki is having fun at the expense of certain so-called A-list bloggers and in doing so validates blog marketing. He’s asking readers to put a caption to the cartoon. Mine?

Is that Mena Trott at the back? Come on up girl. James Governor says Sun’s giving away free servers.

There’s a serious side to this. Start out at Shel’s Naked Conversations. Then swing out to Rick Segal’s Post Money Value. From there, hop to Paul Kedrosky’s Infectious Greed and then swing back to Rick’s and pick up the link to Hugh’s Gapingvoid. It’s at the bottom of the post. See where this is going? NO? Ok. Swing back to Rick’s place and pick up the link for Vinnie’s comments about ning. Getting warm? OK – last stop but one: Answers to Taxing Questions – doesn’t that look cool? WOW – clients could use something like this couldn’t they? Apparently not in some quarters.

But if all of that leaves you feeling terribly confused or cold, then you could always try the link out from Vinnie’s discussion to CNN. That should be a comfort to all those who think this medium is a load of rubbish. But before you do that consider this. Brad Fitzpatrick, who did the cartoon for Guy has not been getting a lot of traffic. I bet he does after seeing all those incredible comments at Guy’s place. Here is one of the out-takes from the design set. Now tell me. Is this guy smart or what?

What could this mean for your marketing efforts? How about ditching those awful cookie cutter e-mail newsletters that no-one ever reads and which you pay good money for. Interesting to note that Jeff Nolan – an SAP guy with a big megaphone has put media company ziffdavis in his spam filter. Holy crap! Did you check that out with the ad department Jeff? I’m sure they’re really pleased with you!

In the meantime, how about taking a look at what this medium could do for your clients. As you might have got an inkling, it’s awash with information and advice I’m 100% certain is useful and helpful. Any questions?
