One public sector Oracle user says:
Oracle is frankly the worst system i have ever used…
I have to use this system everyday at my new job, it is without doubt the most mind boggling and confusing system i have ever had the misfortune of using.
It is slow, inefficient and has a mind of its own…
The public sector really need to switch to another system…..

(sorry for pinching it all lads.)
It is usually very difficult to get users to come out and talk about this stuff. I’m hoping there will be more perspective on the issues involved. This is what I know about Oracle apps:
- Workflow is excruciatingly slow
- It cannot handle multiple bank accounts in the same supplier account. It has to ‘see’ two accounts but they cannot contain the same name.
- Consultants are poorly briefed on the needs of procurement staff inside NHS trusts – I know of staff walking away after a half day of three scheduled training days because consultants were clueless
- Procurement staff have said the system is dreadfully slow and complex. (reflects above)
I have heard rumours on other things but they’re rumours so I won’t repeat here. Of course everyone wants to stick it to the big boys. And without going down the ‘government shouldn’t be standardising on a single system’ road, I would not normally pick this up. But…Oracle seems to be displaying a range of issues that are worthy of attention.
Over to Vinnie and Jeff methinks.
