As usual, the Opposition is lambasting Gordon Brown and as has become the norm, the taxation devil is in the detailed White Paper that is circulating among the tax departments of professionals around the country. I’ve not seen the details and others are better qualified to set this out. Personally, I was disappointed on the high level details but praise should be given for his attempts to capitalise on the country’s intellectual capital. Encouraging training in the sciences has been woeful as the UK is seen more as a service economy. But how many estate agents, accountants, lawyers and financial advisors does the country need? What do they contribute to the development of the economy? Not much IMO.
Any solid measures that encourage science studies should therefore be welcomed. Especially – as is the case this time – in advanced fuel research.
