So the shrewd don't matter?

Immediately prior to my few days away, I’d been following a conversation around the high tech analyst community kicked off by ARmageddon. This is the territory of Gartner, Forrester and IDG at the mega end and crews like RedMonk at the other. My blog could be seen as part of that lower end. As could Vinnie Marchandani. A fascinating discussion is underway as to whether boutique style analysts will inherit the rubble of the crumbling edifices of the old style analyst firm.

I could ask exactly the same question of the big consulting firms. It seems to me it is only a matter of time before boutique, agile and customer driven firms will emerge. These will be firms quite happy to face competition, perfectly at home in delivering high value, fast track projects. They’ll emerge as part of the organic growth among 3-6 man firms. And why not when each can earn £6-800/day, five days a week with virtually zero overhead?

James Governor and I go waaaaay back.

Folks such as Redmonk are catching the attention of folks in corporate America. Glad you are noticing. Maybe an analyst could analyze this trend...

Definitely boutique analyst firms are getting better reception these days - much needed at a time when growth is mostly what the big firms are after - most of them are adding sales reps!!

Indeed - I can almost hear the quiet munching sounds. (another oxymoron with the emphasis on...)

Maybe the "shrewd" are just happily and quietly doing the business, and chewing away at the edifices already.
