Ken Frost carries the story and in an update says:
If you look up the registration of www.globalaccountingalliance.co.uk, you will see that it was registered on 15th September 2005 by the ICAEW.
This was before the merger motion was defeated in October 2005. This implies that the wheels were already in motion for the creation of the GAA.
Why then, if the ICAEW was working towards a global alliance at that stage, did they persist in telling the members that the most effective way of making our voice heard on the world/national stage was via merging with CIMA/CIPFA?
This gives me the impression that ICAEW CEO Anstee misled members. If true then Ken and others have every reason to be outraged. Damian Wild carries a very different story about this move. He doesn’t link to AccyAge staffer Kevin Reed’s sensationalist: ICAEW strikes blow in global battle. (I’ve done it for you fellas
)
As usual, this brings up the spectre of Anstee’s leadership. I know most members are exasperated at the way they’re treated and the dominance of the Big 4 is a genuine bummer. But unless the rank and file get motivated to DO something, then Anstee is pretty much invulnerable. That’s a dangerous place to be. Help them out Damian. Anstee doesn’t take Ken’s or my calls.
