Last week was pretty dramatic and as it came to a close there was so much going on I didn’t have time to get it all done. Here’s the edited highlights of selected stuff I ran out of time to cover that impact the world of accounting.
- More insight into the Systems Union sale – productivity was 50%+ below average industry competition. Unsustainable as currently organised.
- Verasage puts up excellent post: Old Men, in Old Firms, with Old Ideas about the 2 sides of the profession – industry accountants versus practitioners. They’re like strangers who operate from different mindsets. Hint: listen to your industry colleagues.
- Microsoft uber blogger Robert Scoble finally went all enterprisey but said my suggestions about enjoining finance into the blog community wouldn’t happen. That story moved forward with investment bloggers pitching in along with industry analysts to form a view I’ve never seen before. Very interesting.
- AccountancyAge gets into blogging and editor Damian Wild admits he fouled up first day out – WOW – that’s gotta be an editorial first. I wonder what AA’s x,000 readers think of that.
- CBR’s Jason Stamper gets into Technorati at my suggestion – yay!
- Sage tells me it’s had an internal R&D blog for the last couple of years – pressure continues to get Sage out in the open. “We’re working on it.” OK – I’ll live with that.
- Ernst & Young demonstrates its cluelessness in dealing with this new medium – but they’re trying. At least they’ve posted a white paper. Personally, I’d prefer to try out ideas over this medium.
- I end up the subject of a story by Drew Benvie about the future of the BBC as it readies its next generation media offerings. We’re all affected – BBC sites are among the most visited on the planet. Great discussion around the place.
- Process errors well and truly exposed over the IRIS Payemaster incident in both sales and service management. Ugly. And ongoing.
- AccountingWEB’s (US) fascinating insight into JH Cohn, one of the largest regional US firms of professional accountants. Comparisons to UK experience are obvious.
- Vinnie Mirchandani, a close blogging colleague makes it into HRO – an online title covering human resource optimisation. Vinnie’s into business process outsourcing. What an interesting mix.
- Tom Foremski and I have an interesting discussion around the new leadership requirements.
