Tech.meme is reporting the blogs having a field day over Google’s widely rumoured launch of a spreadsheet service. No doubt David Carter over at AccountingWEB will weigh in at some point. I predict with 0.7 certainty, David will rail against the lack of functionality and pivot tables. Others imply this is the beginning of the end for Microsoft’s Excel while others use the idea to point out Google’s closed application world. Fun, isn’t it? No actually.
I don’t care about this and I don’t think this announcement will get me to move from NumSum or Zoho, which I can share. What I want, which Google is NOT providing is a properly integrated set of office style applications. Until that happens I’m as stuck as the next person. When it solves that one, I’ll be tempted.
Note to Google: What the heck are you doing with Writely? You’re taking the Beta moniker a bit far this time.
Note to Paul Kedrosky and Tom Foremski: You are soooo right.
