When DabbleDB launched to private beta earlier this year I said I love it but it needs calculation functionality. Because despite its whizzy Web 2.0 interface it was sorely lacking that capability. In comments, Avi Bryant acknowledged the issue. It’s just gone into live beta. And there’s no readily discernible calculation functionality – after nigh 3 months.
I’ve posted comments at Paul Kedrosky’s site about this (he invested), TechCrunch, where Mike is effusive about the funding and Jeff Nolan, who wants to see more of this kind of app in the enterprise.
Please – don’t get me wrong. DabbleDB is a seriously GREAT idea. But mass adoption requires business people to get it and run with it.(Think accountants with 1,000 clients+ because they’re the business influencers for consumer+ apps.) At the moment, I can’t do that. So…if I’m thick and am missing something obvious then please show me how I deal with this pretty crucial issue. If not…then please fix it – soon.
As an aside – I’m worried the enthusiasm over the promise of Web 2.0 apps is getting out of hand. This is the second time in less than a week I’ve felt it appropriate to question the judgment of those I normally respect. Is this a case of the music playing so loud, the dancers feel they have to to keep up with the tune? I hope not.
UPDATE: I finally got going but this app doesn’t cut it. It doesn’t calculate correctly. See next post on this
