A while back, Ismael Ghalimi asked if I would like to present at Office 2.0 on behalf of Winweb. While the idea has a lot going for it, the timing is less than perfect. I also hate presenting. I’m much more of an observer type. OK – coward then. And no, I won’t be jaw-jawing.
Over the last couple of days, a bunch of things have come together and now I’ll be making the 12,200 mile round trip to San Francisco. I am self funding the gig. I’m not actively seeking sponsorship to attend as I want to be a free agent on this occasion. But…
I believe Office 2.0 will be a pivotal event. Since the turn of the year, Ismael has been cobbling together a bunch of hosted applications. The idea is to create a low cost, shareable, portable computing environment that anyone with access to a browser can use. Sounds enticing. Ismael explains the rationale here.
I haven’t talked about it much because the focus has been on assembling the technology, something many of my readers would see as a big yawn. I’m hoping that by the end of the gig, I’ll have learned how Office 2.0 might work in a business environment.
Another reason for going is that a number of my fellow Irregulars will be there; some presenting, some listening, others blogging. This may even turn into an informal Irregulars conference. Apart from Jeff Clavier and Vinnie, I’ve never met the other Statesiders so for me, it represents a great opportunity to press a bit of flesh and share cigars. I can’t explain it but this feels like the right time. Call it gut instinct if you will.
David Terrar and David Tebbutt are hoping to go and if he’s around, I hope to catch up with Morgan McLintic among others. It will be a busy schedule.
My nightmarish journey plans and thoughts about United Airlines are for another post.
