Sage CTO Klaus-Michael Vogelberg on mySQL

October 27, 2006 Cloud Computing/SaaS

The way it sees the playing field: “We must secure the infrastructure [on which Sage runs] for the long term…the medium to long term strategy is to replace the back end databases.”… Klaus-Michael wouldn’t be drawn on specifics, but affirmed the company will be making significant announcements (as I suspected) at the upcoming Connections conference.

Upcoming call with Sage CTO plus Connections

October 27, 2006 Cloud Computing/SaaS

However, from the wink-wink, nudge-nudge style of conversation I held with the PR person, their upcoming Connections gig could be very interesting…. Either way, Sage seems pleased I’ve agreed to attend the conference and are prepared to cover my travel expenses to get me there on what will no doubt be a wet November in Manchester – it usually is.

Izza tuff'en

October 26, 2006 Tax and Ethics

Michael Izza has emerged as the ICAEW’s next top dog CEO, taking over from the controversial Eric Anstee who seemed to have the uncanny knack of pissing quite a few people off…. Apart form maintaining standards, it would help the Institute compile useful statistics on how well the profession is performing in exercising its skills and so adjust its pre- and post-qualification training programmes so they remain fresh, relevant and valuable.

I'm 79 on a list

October 26, 2006 Humour

The figures change (up and down in some weird way) almost daily and I’ve more or less given up asking them to re-index my site…. (you have to click through to get context :) It’s fascinating to see the Adam Smith Institute up there at 34 with the political right wing incendiary Guido Fawkes at 19, while everyone’s right wing political buffoon, Boris Johnson comes in a very credible 17.

October 26, 2006 Cloud Computing/SaaS

Phil then goes on to say: This revelation played directly to NetSuite’s core message, which is that the financial transaction engine — the lodestone of NetSuite’s own on-demand offering — is the most fundamental component of any business system; and that Salesforce.com’s application suite doesn’t have one and therefore cannot be the platform of choice if you want to run your entire business on it…. The only times people are willing to change is when: The pain associated with what they’re doing becomes unbearable The personal, perceived ‘cost’ of learning something new is outweighed by the benefits derived I don’t see easy answers to this, except at the SME level where technology adoption has been fragmented at best and where business processes are almost non-existent.

CFO Beech disgraced in revenue rigging

October 26, 2006 Tax and Ethics

At the time, i2 was spinning the most outrageous success stories about it’s supply chain customers and how they were building the mother of all supply chain ecosystems…. And therefore, wasn’t there always the problem of reaching the last mile in order to truly say the supply chain is automated?

Video future?

October 26, 2006 Innovation

Hearing some of the politico’s answers as to why she uses the blog, podcast and videocast media, it was immediately apparent that at least one American politician understands that it is no longer possible to manipulate the media audience…. ‘Once the community grows to a certain point then you don’t own it anymore, the community owns itself and now you have to queue to find out the direction they want you to go.’
