John Clough defects

January 31, 2007 General

John Clough has defected. He’s gone from running BDO’s IT implementation squad to…..IRIS. OMG! Back story: John has been very quiet since Christmas and my hack’s nose was telling me som’ut’s afoot. Now we know. In email, John tells me it is a long story (soon to be revealed here) but that he “Still loves [...]

SAP and Oracle: air kissing

January 31, 2007 Humour

I couldn’t resist this. Oracle has been hamming it up as it talks about new releases and how it’s bigger, better and altogether more gorgeous than SAP. But in among the knock about talk, one of my friends and colleagues, Mark Crofton got called out by Oracle exec Fred Studer, Marketing VP. Mark is a [...]

Symantec and Staying Alive in the data center

January 31, 2007 Humour

Staying Alive in the Data Center Courtesy of James Governor, I popped over to Ed Foster to see what folk are saying about Symantec. It seems that in his Worst Vendor of 2006 poll, Symantec shaded it for the top slot (or is that bottoms up?) What tipped the scales in what was a closely [...]

Zoho Notebook: my 2 penn'orth/cents

January 31, 2007 Innovation

Attendance is thought to be a shade down on last year and, as far as delegates are concerned, it’s the same old faces hearing much the same old message. According to some sources, events of this kind can [...]

CODA goes after SunSystems customers

January 30, 2007 General

I don’t know why but the moment I saw this Jessica Hagy cartoon, I immediately thought of Infor. But then I’d just come off an email exchange with CODA about their ‘Kill SS‘ campaign. For those that didn’t read the reproduced press releases elsewhere, CODA is looking for growth by offering to help SunSystems user [...]

Microsoft wants to WOW you at $16 each

January 30, 2007 General

Some reports put Microsoft’s advertising spend on Vista at $500 million. That works out at $16.67 per unit on the basis of projected Vista shipments for 2007. Not a huge amount in the scale of things but then it worries me that Microsoft thinks it needs to ‘wow‘ its customers. Joe Wilcox thinks Steve Ballmer [...]
