SAP isn’t happy that Oracle filched Hype-erion. Who can blame them given SAP’s BI applications struggle to stand muster? But then Oracle needn’t crow too loudly. As far as I can tell, the Hyperion acquisition is Oracle’s 4th attempt at owning the CFOs KPI desk space in he last 10 years. Enter Microsoft.
Dave Drach, Microsoft director Biz Apps emerging business team suggested I hook up with PrecisionPoint. This is a segment that SAP sees as a $300K per pop opportunity (at best) yet such cost belies the potential added value. Given Thomas’ simple sales person’s equation, what do you think will get most sales attention compared to a possible $4 million payroll sale?
Having spent time with PrecisionPoint execs, understanding the company’s pedigree and reviewing the solution, I reckon Microsoft has a hidden gem that while not necessarily a category killer, changes the data warehouse/BI space for mid-range companies. Installation takes less than 2 days. Support is provided via a web service that polls each installation each day fixes most out of balance problems automatically. Training takes a couple of days. Marquees customers include Rotary Group Holdings (Rotary watches) and Ryvita.
