Can you believe that ALL the professional Institutes are THIS spineless?
The institutes have publicly challenged the government’s lack of publicity for the offshore tax amnesty, the bodies said today.
Excuse me but HMRC is talking about clients of practitioners who, presumably are members of these Institutes.
Why should HMRC publicise an amnesty for tax evaders? Given these people are breaking the law and presumably practitioners have at least some knowledge about what’s going on, then why toss this hot potato back to HMRC?
AccountancyAge suggests that lack of publicity might put practitioners at risk of civil liability. If that is proven to be so then one interpretation might be that practitioners have colluded with clients to evade tax. At least – that’s mine.
