Teaser warning. Next week sees the public beta related to a project I’ve been working on for a while with three other people. We’re putting into practice many of the things we’ve learned in the last 2 years from the social computing community which means (among other things):
-
I’m attending the 5th June London Geek Girl dinner hosted by Google. Rosie Sherry is my ’date’ for the event. If you’re male and want to go, you must have a female date. Positive discrimination? So what. My thanks go to Excite’s Amanda Lorenzani for arranging the hook up between Sherry and I. I’d really like to get solid beta representation from the girl geeks. I believe they bring a special talent for usability and are tenacious in service testing. This is Rosie’s passion so I expect a grilling. BTW – looking at the wiki, the event is fully subscribed. Sweet.
-
I’ll be giving a 5 minute spiel at London wiki Wednesday 6th June. BTW – I hate public speaking so it should be ‘interesting.’
-
On 7th June, I’ll be at OpenCoffee Club London with two of my business partners where we will do a ‘show and feedback’ from the crowd. If possible, we’ll do a Craig Cmehil and live cast using Ustream.tv from the OCC venue. Time permitting, we’ll do a bit of Twittering and some Jaiku stuff as well. Assuming the wifi works.
This is an evolving project and it would not be fair on the development team if I jump the gun and said much more right now and no, this is nothing to do with stealth or anything else equally restrictive. Today, I can give three tiny hints:
-
It is directly related to the profession
-
It solves a major problem for VSBs and startups
-
It relates to something that’s a hobby horse of mine
All of which means I am seriously invested in this thing and pleased to have been invited on as part of the team. As an aside, my involvement is a direct consequence of operating this weblog and to date I’ve only met one of the team in person. That’s the nature of the flat world in which we live.
As we get closer to the launch date, I may be able to say more. One thing is for sure, we’re fully prepared to make lots of mistakes and learn from the community as this moves from beta to rollout. Does this mean AccMan will turn into a pimping site? No. Will I provide regular updates? That’s a promise.
