Practice differentiation

in General

Sometime I read things that make me laugh, other times they make me weep, still others make me think. Sometimes they do all three. Here is an example from Richard Sergeant who has the grand title of Client Relationship Manager for PracticeWEB which has been providing content rich, unique designed, secure websites for accountants to UK practices since 1999:

If you were to list all the services available from UK accountancy firms of a similar size side by side, there would be barely a 64-8 between them. So what makes one firm different from another?…Presentation, profile, branding and corporate identity.

Let me get this right – the only real difference between firms is their marketing? I disagree. What differentiates one firm from another are the people. The firms with whom I have the best relationships are those that have the best people in every sense. They are packed with people who are smart, funny, engaging, trustworthy, intellectually honest, sharp and challenging. And obsessed with client relationships. Not websites as Chris implies.

End of story.

Jason/Stuart - I ommitted to say but as part of the 1% Club, I'd expect you to be 'different.' It's the other 99% that worry me.

What we do more and more of the time is a world away from what the average compliance firm does. That's one reason why we ditched our "boiler plate" website.

Ah it reminds me of the days when the 'secretary' was so bad at typing it was mentioned to her she was 'crap', anyway later that day a memo went round from the secretary saying her typing was not carp!!

Jason - type - I think you meant 'spot' but 'stop' is just as good.

I deliberately didn't make the point as I fully expected someone else to do so. Thank you.

Ignoring what you say Den because I do agree with you I just want to comment on what Richard says.

If it is branding and corporate identity etc and your internet site that set you apart so much, then why does Richard and his team churn out the same looking and feeling sites, you can stop them a mile off?
