I’ve heard some deeply disturbing things came out of the SIIA On Demand conference. Someone who was there told me that a certain section of the on-demand crowd were chanting the ‘software is dead’ mantra for all it’s worth.
I’m a huge fan of on-demand but even I know that is arrant nonsense. Sure – there are plenty of things that are better as on-demand but not everything. At least not now. It’s about ‘fit for purpose’ and being on what Phil Wainewright describes as a continuum. Even Google understand this. Last week, it released an offline version of its Reader application which I use for consuming and sharing RSS feeds.
