Curry 2.0, an event not to be missed

by admin on July 2, 2007

It’s late and I have a 5.30 am wake up call so this will be brief.

Tonight’s Curry 2.0 in Dublin, organised by Paul Walsh was a great event. Around 30 entrepreneurs, investors and advisors gathered ay Jaipur in downtown Dublin for a fine meal, conversation and mild pitching. I didn’t pitch as I hate standing up in front of strange crowds of people but it didn’t prevent me wearing the Blue Monster – especially as folk from Microsoft were there.

Those that wished pitched and we all forked over €25. €5 for the service people and €20 into a fund for the best pitch. The winner, James Kennedy from SmartNote can now make the trip to London to attend OpenCoffee Club (where I will be this Thursday) and meet some of the investment community.

Some might wonder why I was in Ireland. Simple. They’ve a vibrant but under-supported startup community that’s busting a gut to get recognition. Unlike other places I’ve been, these folk are not doing a bunch of me-too stuff but are coming up with some truly interesting and useful ideas for the new world we live in. It would be unfair to pick out individuals, but if you want to know what’s going on not far from ‘home’ then I’d encourage anyone to check out BarCamp Ireland and especially IT@Cork.

I’ve posted a few pics up on Flickr before the battery on my N95 gave out. The remainder will be posted in the coming days.

Thanks to Paul for making it such a great event.

Next stop London where I’ll be for the next 3 days.

PS – Grafton Capital Hotel offers free wifi, breakfast and in-room tea making facilities all at very reasonable rates for a centre of town hotel.

UPDATE: The pics are organised into this set.
