I'd move the Latest Story, Asides and Recent Stories stuff on the left elsewhere since the eye naturally looks at that side for relevant new content. The middle column should be there instead since the short description below each headline is pretty useful in deciding whether you want to click through or not. Presently it looks a bit squished. There should also be an indicator next to each headline denoting the number of reader comments since that tends to tally well with the usefulness of the news piece. The Recent Conversations entries could also do with time-stamping. Don't know if it's possible but it would be nice to have a toggle to display headlines date-wise or subject-wise. It wasn't that difficult once I understood how the templates fit together - just a bit of judicious code changing here and there plus a bit of fiddling with headings, categories and post numbers.
