I’m no code jock or geek but in the last year I’ve been developing relationships with a number of SAP and SAP affiliated geeks. They try really hard to understand what business types or ‘suits’ – that’s a joke, I lost my last one – are saying even though at times we all get confused with each other’s worlds. I’m not sure that us businessy folk do a great job in reciprocation. That’s another story.

I was therefore delighted to see that Craig Cmehil set up a uStream.tv channel for SAP’s TechEd Community Day. This was made available to those of us unable to attend. If you’re interested, there will be further sessions throughout the 3 day event.

TechEd is currently being held in Las Vegas and while there is no substitute for physical attendance, it was a great chance to participate in a live broadcast that included a session by Redmonk, one on communication between geeks and suits and an executive panel. uStream.tv has a back channel where you can post comments. This is really useful when there is a Q&A because it gives folk like me the chance to lob in questions. A fair few of us also used Twitter to send out messages to the wider world and to communicate among ourselves. Some of us were sad enough to be sitting up until 2am watching events unfold.

Which brings me to an interesting thought. Microsoft has The Blue Monster. But as Chris Dalby says:

There’s alot of vendors out there that could take a leaf out of what SAP is doing by using cutting edge technology that is freely available to reach out to an extended audiance.

A huge big-up must go out to Craig Cmehil for bending these media types and reducing the barriers to entry lower than the belly of a snake hit by a truck.

Marketing or simple story telling? You decide.
