Whenever I think of Paris three things pop into my head:
- The chaotic traffic at Place de la Concorde
- Depeche Mode’s Exciter tour of 2001
- LeWeb3
This week I will be at LeWeb3, mostly wearing my ZDNet hat but also dropping some tidbits here. It promises to be a terrific event with many of the world’s leading thinkers on software innovation in attendance and an overall cast of some 1,700 people – maybe more.
One person I will miss. Hugh MacLeod, who is unwell at this time. I’ve not seen Hugh in a while and he always makes me think. Another is Ben Metcalfe, who is way too busy on Seesmic and other cool stuff. Ben got the ‘asshole’ treatment at the 2005 LeWeb from SixApart co-founder Mena Trott. Unforgettable.
Speaking of assholes, I couldn’t let this go without a mention of Sam Sethi. He provided last year’s entertainment at LeWeb and earned an ‘assholing’ from Loic LeMeur. If Sam shows up this year then I suspect others will have more to say about the latest shenanigans. (listen to MP3 at the bottom of this post.)
PS – news of Marc Orchant’s death came in just as I got this post done. Adds a tragic poignancy to the events surrounding Sam’s recent hiccup.

You really do need to let me know when you are in SF next. We'll have to go drinking (which means 1 for me, since I'm such the lightweight).
Talk soon.
