Aside from the post-in receipt service, the basic email + scan-your-own service looks hugely promising to me, but even with 30 staff and “one of the most talented young web designers in the country”, it fails to add the option for different currencies – and cannot recognise my iTunes receipt email purely because it uses the £ symbol.

While I admire what the many great US startups and big players have done webwise where relatively few British companies have succeeded, I think it a huge shame that we nearly always have to settle for American English and generally very poor localisation.

SSL encryption has been all over our site since the beginning of our service. Security has always been our first priority, and SSL encryption and a third party HackerSafe designation are prominently located on the site. Shoeboxed, despite the fact that many of our employees are young, is also extremely easy to use, as opposed to some other organization services you may have seen, where most of them only let you upload 1 receipt at a time. Shoeboxed on the other hand, lets you upload dozens of receipts at a time, or even mail them in for us to scan them in for you, saving you tons of time over other receipt organization websites with no personality.

We also have way more traffic, so we must be doing something right!

Thanks everybody for their support of the larger consumer revolution we’re working on here at Shoeboxed! We’re not just a usable and useful receipt organizer; we’ve got a lot more comin’!

Shoeboxed says they are secure??? Yeah right! I never see an SSL pad lock on their site at all. I use the popular FileMyReceipt.com which is an SSL secure site and i feel safe that all my receipts are on a professional website, not some college minded website like shoeboxed.

Hi, thanks for your post about Shoeboxed!

Where did you get the idea that Shoeboxed was ever struggling?! We updated the site last year because we came across one of the most talented young web designers in the country willing to work with us. The Facebook group metric isn’t that accurate, seeing as how college students aren’t really the ones that need to organize their receipts. I would know, I’m one of them!

Anyway, Shoeboxed has always been about organization for individuals and small businesses. We provide lots of innovative solutions for people to organize their spending, and the Receipt Mail-In program is just one example of how we can eliminate the annoying work of organizing receipts. Dennis, sorry to be a pill and hang around your website all the time.

This shoeboxed.com site is interesting. But paytrust.com I think is a model for All Things Fabulous — get your bills mailed to their P. O. Box, get them scanned, approve payment online, and get the money sucked out of your account automatically. Get a CD at year end with a payment summary and images of all of your bills.

I’ve used it. Slick.

Unfortunately it is owned by Intuit.
