There are so many obstacles to genuine teamwork and collaboration that what we talk ourselves into believing are "benefits" are actually "detriments. I've been writing about it quite a bit. Too many organisations have demonstrated to their staff that they don't trust them. Examples I have seen range from not supplying media (CD's or DVD's) "because people pinch them" through to not being allowed to see the contract fro a customer you're working with because "it's commercial-in-confidence".
