AccMan’s on a list

September 2, 2008

The Internet is full of great resources for current and future CPAs to keep up with the latest in their industries and in the world of finance. With so much information at your fingertips, why not take advantage of it? You may just learn something new or find advice on topics you’ve been struggling with. Here are 50 great accounting blogs to check out to learn the ins and outs of accounting.

It seems AccMan is on that list. Nice. So is Francine. Even nicer.

I’m not normally a huge fan of lists as they tend to be self selecting and self serving but it is good to see the profession waking up to this medium as a way of communicating very different aspects of professional life. I particular liked Bill Kennedy’s latest post, talking about implementation issues where he says:

Be patient with the slower ones and look for ways to support them. Maybe they need to sit with someone else and go over how to use the system. Maybe they are worried that something has been forgotten. Experience has taught me to listen to the data entry people’s concerns. They are often aware of things that the Controller / Accounting Manager doesn’t know about.

How true and something that edglings like me can easily forget. Good to be reminded. What’s interesting in this selection is that none of the traditional sources make the cut. Where is CFO.com which I enjoy for getting into some of the fine detail sites like mine miss? How about Accountingweb.com? In the meantime, I recommend sampling other sites on the list. There’s bound to be something for everybody.

UPDATE: How remiss of me - as per Francine’s comment - our good friend Krupo also made the cut.

UPDATE 2: Speaking of lists, we didn’t make it to this list. Allegedly 90% of our content is links from elsewhere. Yeah, I know, can’t read, don’t read, short attention spans and whatnot.

Never heard of regator, don’t care. ;)
Bill’s point is very succinct and reminds me of one of the upsides to doing the grunt-level field work of an audit - you interact with seemingly everyone in a company, from top to bottom - allowing you to see everyone’s concerns.

No longer the big firms think they can then holistically tie everything together. Of course, this assumes you’re listening.
