In my Diigo bokmarks, I fell into ‘edgling’ speak. Jamie Collins was none too pleased saying:
You provide some good links but, no, I’m just not understanding your banter at all well today. Give us it slower.
Jamie is right. So here for the benefit of all are interpretations of the phrases/words I used which might be causing confusion but which act as a sort of SMS for grown ups and which save me oodles of keyboard tapping:
- Twitterling edglings: I’m constantly trying to find ways of describing the ‘new’ world of Twitter. Calling those who populate that space as Twats is rude. Edglings on the other hand is something that Stowe Boyd invented. It aptly captures the notion of those who like to play with shiny new things.
- Meatspace: not sure where this comes from but describes the real world compared to the virtual, digital world I usually occupy. Per Wikipedia.
- Bleh: intense frustration per the Urban Dictionary.
As for the rest? Not terms I use but in the interests of clarity, I promise to ensure that any other weird words will be explained. As a foretaste:
- Teh: a mis-spelling of ‘the’ which provides a superlative to a verb. As an example: “This is teh suck” can be loosely translated as: “This is really crap.”
- FTW: For the win, an enthusiastic emphasis on a prior statement eg “Nice to see a large PO comes in: FTW”
- WTF: What the f$ck? Should be obvious but for those in doubt: “I’ve not heard anything so dumb in ages” is one interpretation. Another could be: “Do they take me for an idiot?”
