3 breaking the international mobile broadband price mould?

by Dennis Howlett on October 20, 2008

This from a Tweet message by Paul Walsh who is currently in Hong Kong:

Are you kidding? Apparently not. I asked Paul where I could find this in the T’s & C’s as I’d looked without success. It seems this is an undocumented ‘feature’ available at £10 per month pre-pay. I’ve no idea whether this is a global thing but if it is then I want some of that.

Is the "£10 pre-pay" the same as 3UK monthly contract? They have a confusing array of "3services" on offer, among them the "top-up" which sounds like it ought to be pre-paid/ but maybe not/ or something else....

On a related note - 3UK sells the Skypephone S2, their newer, £70 PAYG model, that can also act as high-speed data dongle:
    http://www.three.co.uk/personal/mobiles_/discov...

It'd be interesting to find out if the same free-within-3 no-roaming principle applies also to that phone-cum-dongle (=one less item to carry around).

[ On a related note: recently I mailed 3UK with few simple questions regarding use of that Skypephone S2 with "3-sister" Swedish monthly contract there (where solely the previous, WP-S1 model is on sale). Two days later I got a ring from an Indian call-centre that answered some of my questions, and then attempted to fob me off to 3UK's website - where other answers presumably could be found (the gent actually wanted to dictate the "h-t-t-p-colon" etc over the phone!).

When I asked to be emailed direct-access urls to actual pages with those other answers, and that their topicality be checked prior to sending them to me, I was told that all they could provide me with was the top-level url of "www.three.co.uk" Go figure. Or should it be 3Go 3Figure? ;-))]
  • I assumed that Paul but you're right to make that clear. Thanks.
  • Perhaps I should have made it clear Dennis, that it allows me to roam on the 3 networks worldwide - not on other networks. But that is still better than the rest of the bunch, right?!
