While preparing for a blog post on IT Counts I noticed a wee link in the top left hand corner of the site. Clicking took me to Michael Izza’s blog. I’ve no idea if ICAEW publicised the fact but they should SHOUT IT FROM THE DIGITAL ROOFTOPS. (For my non-UK readers, Izza is the CEO of ICAEW.)
I knew that he had a blog floating around but didn’t bother visiting as it was buried in the bowels of the ICAEW’s otherwise pea soup site. Putting a link on the expanding ICAEW community’s home page is a great start but I do wish the Institute would draw a deep breath and put a link on the main ICAEW site. Anyhoo…
The content is solid and on seeing another link (yes – Izza gets links) it took to me to ICAEW’s credit crunch page. It appears this is part of the main ICAEW content management system but I this would benefit enormously from allowing member submissions and open to comments.
One of Izza’s BIG mission statements is to deliver on the notion of ‘confidence.’ We know it is sorely lacking in the public arena. Yet this is one sure fire way members could show their skills in business communication and understanding of the problems clients face. I’ve suggested as much and we’ll see if my comment gets past the moderator. Contrast with the TechDirt Insight Community page that I contributed to last month. There is plenty of solid material, all readily available.
This is the kind of competition to which ICAEW and other Institutes should respond. As the CEO, Izza is able to garner an immediate audience from the membership. Going in the direction I am suggesting will see that audience expand dramatically.
The ICAEW media properties are getting a steady makeover to something that looks modern but without too much clutter and . Thank goodness. If I didn’t know better I’d say that Kim, Aggie, Trini and Susannah had been brought on the team. w00t!
