I’ve gotta ask the question: how bad has the profession become that a woman who has been self employed for 364 days is dishing out solid advice about filing your self-assessment tax return?
Apart possibly from Emily Coltman, I can’t think of any practitioner who would come up with such a great list of *practical* things you should or should not do when it comes to dealing with receipts etc. The point is – who’s going to listen to you?
A few weeks ago, AccountsIQ put out survey results indicating the vast majority of businesses want professional advice. It is a solid piece of work and well worth the reading. At the time, Mark Lee commented:
Their research highlights a desire from small businesses to receive more services from their accountants to help them weather the recession. The survey of 100 small business owner/managers, in December 2008, found that a staggering 82% of respondents would welcome better support and advice.
Many clients are unaware of the different services available from accountants. They tend to assume that all accountants are the same.
Mark’s right because the evidence I have seen suggests the vast majority of professionals really do look alike. Yet it doesn’t have to be that way. The technology is all around us that would make a huge difference, not just to presence but the ability to service clients.
