I just received an update from YouSendIt, a secure file transfer service that is one of those small applications that makes life so much easier than worrying about snail mail (which I don’t do) and insecure methods like email attachments. It was interesting to hear about customer successes because they are the final arbiters:
- A medical industry consultancy has YouSendIt’s file sharing service embedded directly into their e-mail, making secure file transfer of manuals faster and easier while easing the burden on servers by eliminating e-mail attachments.
- FAST SIGNS, a leading international graphic design retailer that creates and installs signs for all type of businesses, eliminated their FTP site saving $50,000 a year on infrastructure and overhead, while reducing the carbon footprint of their server room.
- Employees of Rheem Manufacturing regularly sends large graphic files to ad agencies, printers and field representatives in lieu of their FTP site, reducing the time demands on the IT helpdesk by 15-20 percent.
- Axcess Canada, a software vendor for banking and financial institutions, improved the delivery and security of large, confidential files while reducing the costs associated with storage and bandwidth space required on their server.
As you can see, some of the savings are spectacular. Pricing is a no brainer and as with many such services, there’s a free version.
