The last few days have seen a raft of announcements and innovations in the on-demand accounting world. The pace shows no signs of letting up. This morning alone:
Aqilla received a seed round of funding, said to be in the £300,000 range. The funding comes from Bob Morton, chartered accountant and currently chairman of Armour Group plc and Tenon Group plc. Tenon is the UK’s 9th largest accounting group that has a substantial outsourced accounting division. Morton is quoted as saying: “On?demand? is? a? high? growth? area,? with? companies? of? all? sizes? looking? at? this? type? of? delivery? because? it? offers? access? to? the? latest? applications,? without? the? need? for? high? levels? of? capital? outlay? or? the? ongoing? expense? of? maintenance? and? management,”? It’s good to see the accounting market pick up funding. For me it is a solid validation that this segment is one where investors believe on-demand can make a difference.
Pearl Software – which has a BIG announcement next week has integrated PayPal, along with a solid selection of payment gateways and processors. Pearl is one of those vendors you’ve never heard about but which is doing good things with selected customers. Next week’s announcement is definitely one to watch.
Tomorrow morning, Xero is releasing new functionality for improved debtor management, fixed assets and contact import. Incremental changes of this kind are always valuable and push Xero into fresh markets. Check out the videos:
FreeAgentCentral is engaging more closely with its partners. Blevins Franks for instance is posting advisory content to the FreeAgent blog, the latest of which is about successful contracting in the credit crunch. I’m a huge fan of this type of co-operative content creation as part of ongoing marketing activities. It is very low cost but demonstrates the commitment of both partners in driving customer success.
[Disclosure: FreeAgent and Xero are AccMan sponsors]
