Get outta here

in General

I’m annoyed. I write a semi-positive post about Sage and I get a ton of crappy back channel comments that have little to do with my review but which question my position as a so-called independent observer. Anyone who says that is a dope. Are you so stupid that you think I’m not capable of independent thinking or that the whole on-prem/Saas story is a religious war where I have to choose sides? If so then you understand nothing about being a buyer advocate. For the benefit of anyone who chooses to read this blog and is uncertain where I stand, here’s the deal:

  1. I always bat for the buy side. As a vendor – play nice with customers, you get my undivided attention. Show me great customer examples, I will sing your praises either on a blog post or in a video. I never question customers for their beliefs. If you do then you’re a sad person because you should know that customers have to be trusted plus they always speak louder than anyone else.
  2. You don’t have to agree but if you disagree then at least have the grace to present a reasoned alternative argument. Otherwise, I will piss all over you. Seriously. And not because I want to but because buyers deserve better than the marketing claptrap I have to find a way of parsing back to readers
  3. I believe that SaaS is the best opportunity for buyers to get on an equal footing with on-prem software providers. Saas providers understand the value of relationships.
  4. Companies that sponsor my blog know that if/when they mess up I will write about it but with an absolute right of reply – that’s called being fair. From what I have seen so far, they’re all moving down a good track. If you think you know better then contact me. Let’s work it through. Don’t try drip poison in my ear. That will get you short shrift.
  5. I’m not in this to make friends, I’m in this to help end users get the best of what tech can offer. Anything else is fluff and puff.
  6. I am biased – of course I am – and I’ve never made any secret of that. Towards buyers. If you don’t like that then fine but please understand AccMan is nobody’s PR extension.

As for anything else? The family friend version is: Take a hike. I’m sure you don’t need a map for the ‘not’ family friendly version.

Anyone want to beat me up on this – then try…you will lose. This is where AccMan has always stood and if it peeves you then that’s your problem. Buyers always win in the long term and I plan to remain by their side. So now you know – if there was ever any doubt.

Dennis, you should write up a Whistleblower post on behalf of your profession. :)

No good deed ever goes unpunished.

heh - I have been the 'victim' of your tongue when presenting badly thought out answers to issues you've raised either here or on twitter.

victim is in inverted commas because, for those issues that matter to me (SAP and other enterprise stuff), my first reaction is to go back over my thinking.

Sometimes there's nothing to gain from it.
Usually there is.

You tell 'em Dennis!

Keep doing what you do.

Dennis,

I and several others love reading what you say precisely for your frank, insightful and well thought out opinions.

Don't let stuff like this get you down, these people have no clue what they're talking about.

Thanks Mrinal -...I always try speak the truth of what I see as best for SAP mentors. If I'm wrong then fine,

In the late 90's we evaluated the maket and issues stopping adoption, three drivers emarged:

1) Not Invented Here

2) Concerns about connectivity, speed and availability (lets face it there is no QOS / SLA accross the net)

3) Viability of provider, and ability to get company data out to be able switch.

The latter, we decided was best dealt with a bond from the supplier.

How can it possibly be a "lonely road" with the supprt you have !!

"Nothing makes us so lonely as our secrets.” - Dr. Paul Tournier

Express your considered views as openly as you can.

Totally agree, you are the most indepentant thiking (not on the payroll) blogging star I know. Keep it up and ignore those that do not know better! We need your independant thoughts.

@ptrick - thanks for your support. Much appreciated. It's a tough road to furrow and and as others have said, it is a sometimes lonely road - but that's the price I am prepared to pay if it means that end users get best value. Unfortunately at time it gets irritating having to put up with peeps who try tell me I am wrong but without concrete proofs when I know from practical experience it is otherwise. This is one of those occasions. Hope I don't offend in the process.

Dennis if they can't take the heat they should stay away from the stove. I've seen you bite the so-called hand that feeds you many times, and I've seen you praise stuff you previously railed against when the conditions changed. Don't let the naysayers and the smaller minds get you down.

Nil illegiteme carborundum: (crap spelling aside) - 'Never let the bastards grind you down.' It needed to be said. I'm tired of the fucktards...
