Sage’s retarded Windows 7 readiness

Windows 7 has been available to developers as a test base for about a year. Windows 7 is now available as a retail buying option.

Now we hear that certain Sage products are ‘currently in testing’ as regards working with Windows 7.

In fairness, as software moves through the beta testing phase, things change and further testing is almost always required. But….given Sage is one of Microsoft’s biggest platform users, do you not think they could have twisted a few arms to make sure its own customers are not left confused at best and stranded at worst upon release of the retail product?

As an aside – this kind of problem doesn’t usually arise for saas providers.

UPDATE: Sage has revised its product readiness table as per below:

  • Could it have anything to do with Dynamics being in direct competition with lots of Sage products?
  • It's an expensive and thorough process to get applications "Certified for Windows", I've been through it more than once.

However Windows 7 was RTM'ed in July, was available as a Release Candidate at the end of April and was available as a beta in January. There is no excuse to not have your Windows software working for Windows given the amount of time and, as a Microsoft partner, the resources available to do so.

I wonder what's happening at Sage HQ and if anyone is steering the boat...

Its not very difficult to get Windows 7 certified. As I now work with the ERP developers, they tell me that getting SYSPRO certification for Win 7 was a major hassle
