Goodman Jones does it again

by Dennis Howlett on December 4, 2009

Goodman Jones has always been one of my favourite clients. City based, medium sized practice, go get senior partner, great IT shop and always willing to listen. Like many others it is working its way through the recession. Earlier today, Philip Woodgate pinged me about a video he produced (see above.) Here are the production notes he sent me:

“I used Animoto for the credits after remembering it from a post of yours on IT Counts.  Its a good service that allows some powerful computering power in the cloud for rendering. The live video was recorded on an HD Flip with the sound cleaned up by a downloaded iZotope product. Finally, finished off on Adobe Premiere and loaded up to YouTube.  Annotations were added directly in YouTube.”

Here is a great case of a modest cost technology investment delivering a great result. As a first time out, it’s very well done. Personally, I’d have acquired a MacBook which has iMovie bundled in but hey – always good to hear about other choices and production methods.

Who says accountants can’t be inventive and imaginative?

It's taken me some time to get to this but what a great video. Very wise to have 30% pictures and the rest about tax - it kept it interesting!

Seriously though I enjoyed it far more than the TV pundits because it felt personal - I guess that's because of the Goodman Jones ethos. Well done creating feelings from a tax video.

I'm glad I didn't bet on their forecasts though.

Thanks Stuart. It goes to show how difficult the government is to predict at the moment.
  • Thanks Dennis.

Our tax team will putting another video together after this weeks pre-budget report. We'll look at what is being done from a small and medium sized company perspective.

There has been talk of make-up to improve how our chaps look on camera, but they are not keen...
  • Make up? Whatever next. They looked fine BTW - the words are much more important.
  • Another fine example of low cost consumer oriented technology mixed with some imagination and applied to business. Great stuff from Philip as usual.

Great video, but horrible outlook for taxes in UK!
