When's a cloud not a cloud?

in Cloud Computing/SaaS

In my continuing series around ‘cloud’ I turned up a post from James Governor entitled: 15 Ways to Tell Its Not Cloud Computing.

Of course, as ‘cloud-anything’ becomes the mot du jour and complexity creeps in we might have to revise some of James’ assertions. In the meantime, it’s a modern day classic. Here’s a taster:

If you know where the machines are… its not a cloud.

If there is a consultant in the room… its not a cloud.

If you need to install software to use it… its not a cloud.

Given all the hype, it’s better knowing what isn’t a cloud as a starting point don’t you think?
