The new dork

in Marketing

The new generation of entrepreneurs have much to teach us ‘older’ types about the business of doing business in the 21st century. This is a superb example which, as Mike McDerment, CEO of Freshbooks said:

Marketing done right

…to which I’d add – inventive as well.

If we take this as a proxy for the way the next generation of clients think then what should our response look like? Are ‘we’ capable of thinking the same way or using this example as a way to guide innovation around how ‘we’ market ourselves? Or are such ideas so disrupting that we are sent into a paroxysm of despair?

How about this as a point of encouragement: when I first heard about this video, I saw it had received 305 views. A few hours later? 685. It has the mesmeric and novel qualities that encourage viral distribution.
