Do you struggle to understand cloud computing? You’re not alone.
So much has been written about what The Cloud is…or is not, that discussing the topic seems like picking at a festering wound. Occasionally something comes along that does a terrific job at puncturing the vendors’ earnest desire to score definitional points. This post from Alsbridge does a wonderful job of explaining what ‘cloud’ might mean on any particular day…at least for now. Here’s a taster:
Sitting as if in a dream, our waitress appeared. She seemed strangely like Angelina Jolie.
“Well, hello Benn_MR, I may be serving you tonight” she purred ambiguously
“and Benn_MRS too of course” less purry
“what would take your fancy?”
“Ah, well, perhaps we could see a menu?” I croaked
“Here at the Cloud Brasserie there is no menu – there is only whatever you desire”
“Isn’t it called the Cloud Cafe?” asked Mrs Benn coldly
“It was, darling, and now it is the Cloud Brasserie” replied Angelina with a hint of superiority “Things change often here”
There are a few of what Americans like to call ‘inside baseball‘ references. Much of it should make sense to the hard pressed decision maker who looks at these debates and understandably goes ‘Pfft.’ Nicely flavoured with a soupcon of wicked sarcasm.
