Wayne Schulz Tweeted: Last week being bought. This week downgraded. Next week who knows. UBS downgrades Sage on low growth prospects Oh my. That’s just what you don’t need after celebrating the winning of an award. So what’s going on? UBS has issued an investment report pointing out issues that have been obvious to other [...]

Thumbnail image for Sage evasive about SaaS offering

The other day, the Twitterverse started humming about Sage allegedly touting a SaaS accounting solution priced at £9.99/month to sit alongside SagePay. It had to be Duane Jackson, CEO KashFlow and self appointed Sage baiter. Sage’s move sort of makes sense given the potential value in payment processing solutions for small business. I’d not heard [...]

So, it’s [...]

May 27, 2010 Cloud Computing/SaaS

I fielded a strange call today. It was from a university undertaking research sponsored either directly or indirectly by ClearBooks. I’d agreed to take part but quickly discovered problems. They started out by asking my background. These are supposed to be researchers and I knew they’d read my blog but they didn’t look at the [...]

SaaS UK: state of the nation

May 27, 2010 Cloud Computing/SaaS

The last couple of weeks’ traveling combined with interesting discussions the last few days around SaaS and cloud have me thinking about where we’re at. In one conversation, the other party estimates that maybe 20,000 businesses in the UK are using SaaS accounting. I put the figure considerably higher but in the context of the [...]

Going pear shaped: TAS style

March 23, 2010 Humour

I have fond memories of TAS Books before it was acquired by Sage in 2001. Great software, did what it said on the packet, excellent entry level accounting package that never realised its market potential – hence it was acquired. So you have to ask yourself – what did they do to deserve this entry [...]

Pearl sticks its claws into IRIS

March 4, 2010 Cloud Computing/SaaS

Pearl has developed an integration to IRIS. It had to happen and it is an important landmark. I’ve long felt that the battleground among SaaS accounting providers will be fought on two fronts: directly with customers, which is already happening, and by the extent to which the providers can either give the professional what they [...]
